For Students
"A mentor once told me Master’s Commissions are director-driven. They said the heart of the director will be clearly seen throughout the Master’s Commission program. Please take a few minutes to learn my heart for SCMC. It has been incredible to see the Lord bring students from all across the United States to be a part of the SCMC family. Maybe, just maybe, He desires for you to become a part as well.

My heart bleeds family. Family is the first word that describes SCMC. Josh McDowell once said that a strong family is the best gift you could give students. I believe that to be true. It is the desire of our staff to model healthy, strong relationships; starting with our own personal families. SCMC truly has a sense of family. It is a place of covenant and commitment where we strive to maintain unity and oneness. It is a place of refuge where we lovingly sharpen and confront each other in order to grow and become more like Christ.

Secondly, my heart is for SCMC to be a place of discovery. It’s a time for you to become so close to the Lord that you better understand the dreams or seeds of destiny He placed in your heart when you were in your mother’s womb (Psalm 37:3-4, Psalm 139). That is exactly what happened to me the year after I graduated from high school. Before passing away, my Mom asked me to give nine months of my life to God before going to college. That nine months changed my life. It was during that nine months I began to discover what God wanted me to do with my life.

Some may feel if they don’t go to college immediately following high school they will get behind. I believe that is a myth. Actually, I think it’s quit contrary to the truth. Once a student finishes nine months of SCMC, they are often ahead of their friends spiritually and emotionally. It’s due to the fact that they have taken the time to turn aside from life, process their past and prepare for the future. I also think it’s because they have spent intimate time with their Creator. The very one who fashioned and formed every day for them.

Lastly, my heart for SCMC is one of discipleship. It’s a place where you can lay a solid foundation for life by learning spiritual truths and disciplines that will affect your life personally and professionally. It’s a chance for you to “buy” Biblical convictions rather than “borrow” them from your parents or youth pastor. Thomas Cochrane said, “Discipline in early life, which is ready to make sacrifices in order to gain adequate preparation for life tasks, paves the way for high achievement.” Around the SCMC family, we say, “If you want to rule the world you must first learn how to rule your room.” SCMC is a place where your integrity and character are built."
